Design for Fahrenheit 451

Project for Fundamentals for Scenic Design

The world of Fahrenheit 451 is one that is planned, constructed, and monitored by a ruthless central authority. This is reflected in the minimalist set, cold and estranged,
covered by a cool sheen of metal and glass. The design brings the dystopian social structure onto the stage through industrially standardized posts, beams, railings, and
stairs within an unpolished theater space, forming open module structures for the characters. Many secrets are hidden in the set that are the keys for the audience to
unlock the characters’ inner world, hidden from the central authority. Where are the books to burn? Where are the watchful eyes? Is there still humanity and hope? This
open design provides the characters with the space and opportunities to explore and question themselves and each other in this dystopian world.
