Design for Eurydice
Project for Advanced Scenic Design I
The design of Eurydice merges different worlds into a single, cohesive surrealist realm. As characters step into these worlds, odd encounters and emotions unfold. Love and passion are
beautifully expressed through warm-toned, abstract crystal stones. They illuminate the moments when Eurydice and Orpheus share their time in the living world. In contrast, the underworld is
cold and solitary, bathed in darkness. There are only the shimmering reflections of blue water to break the stillness. The Father wanders alone, consumed by an eternal longing for his daughter.
The deep love Orpheus has for the deceased Eurydice leads him into the world in between. Frustrated and directionless, he is overwhelmed by a sense of hopelessness that seeps from
the grey, barren ground. As the characters move fluidly between worlds, they search for meaning—both in life and within themselves. The set amplifies their emotional journeys,
enveloping the audience in a realm rich with sentimental experiences without physical specificity.
